Serbian PM, Croatian Storm general meet

ZAGREB -- While in Zagreb recently, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic briefly met and shook hands with former Croatian General Mladen Markac.

Both were attending the inauguration of Croatia's new president. The moment was captured by a photojournalist with the Croatian daily Vecernji List, and the photograph posted on its website.

The photograph also shows another former Croatian general, Ivan Cermak, standing behind Markac.

Markac and Cermak were charged and put on trial by the Hague Tribunal for war crimes committed against Serb civilians in Croatia during Operation Storm in 1995. Both were, along the third defendant, Ante Gotovina, acquitted.

Gotovina did not attend the inauguration on Sunday.

The Croatian daily writes that Markac and Vucic met briefly in the crowd after the ceremony and exchanged a few sentences.

Markac, however, did not wish to say what they spoke about.

"I cannot tell you anything about that. We will cooperate another time," the newspaper quoted him as saying.
