President Plevneliev: Romania is Bulgaria's third largest trading partner inside the EU

Romania is Bulgaria's third largest trading partner inside the European Union and the fourth worldwide, Republic of Bulgaria President Rosen Plevneliev declared on Friday at a meeting with chairman of Romania's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) Mihai Daraban.

We can therefore reach a new level of cooperation, on top of what we have achieved so far as partners. Bilateral exchanges increased 800 percent in a decade. Romania is Bulgaria's third largest trading partner inside the EU and the fourth worldwide, said the President of Bulgaria, while on a visit to Bucharest.

He underscored that there is a high potential for economic development "through a far more ambitious approach on both sides, as well as by shaping, changing and using what we have already learned about the European mechanisms and programs, in order to obtain better results at regional level."

In turn, the CCIR chairman mentioned the need for a joint working agenda of the two states, given that Romania is an important destination for Bulgarian business.

"The solid commercial exchanges between our countries confirm Romania and Bulgaria's status of strategic partners. We are convinced that the current level of bilateral trade, which topped 3 billion euros in 2013, can be rendered even more dynamic through the close cooperation of the public authorities and private organizations in our countries. With exports to Bulgaria running at almost 1.7 billion euros and from the position of Bulgaria's third most important trading partner in the European Union, Romania is an important destination for Bulgarian business," said Daraban.
