Drecun: Taci's statement is insult to victims

BELGRADE - Head of the Serbian parliament committee for Kosovo Milovan Drecun said on Monday the statement by Kosovo's Prime Minister Hasim Taci that Kosovo would sue Serbia for genocide was an insult to victims, adding that Kosovo could not move forward unless it established a special court in the next few months.

"Kosovo cannot move forward if it does not form a special court urgently within the next few months in order to investigate and prosecute those members of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who committed horrible crimes mostly against the Serb civilian population, but also against other non-Albanians and members of the Serbian security forces," Drecun said.

This requires financial resources in the range of EUR 200-300 million and judges to be in charge of the trials, he noted.

Taci's statement that Kosovo is going to sue Serbia for genocide is an insult to victims, because it is an instance of someone who is the most responsible for war crimes pressing charges against someone else, Drecun stressed.

"The terrorist organisation KLA planned their crimes, murdered civilians and committed ethnic cleansing, which could be interpreted as genocidal intent. The court that is to be established will definitely determine whether the KLA committed a genocide in Kosovo," he pointed out.

When it comes to Serbia, he stated that the its forces defended the entire population in Kosovo from the terrorist activities of the KLA commanded by Taci.

On Saturday, Taci told Turkey's news agency Anadolu that Kosovo would seek "war damages" from Serbia, on charges of genocide committed during the 1998-1999 war.
