Bakhoum on Egypt-Serbia relations, fight against terrorism

BELGRADE - The Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia Menha Mahrous Bakhoum has said that the big "Egypt Economic Development Conference" , to take place next month in Sharm el-Sheik, will be an opportunity for further improvement of already excellent relations between Serbia and Egypt.

Bakhoum pointed out that Egypt and Serbia had historically enjoyed excellent bilateral relations, not only during the "golden era" of Tito and Nasser, but from the time of the Kingdom, where diplomatic relations were established in 1908.

"However, there is room for improvement of bilateral relations," said Bakhoum in an interview with Tanjug.

In this context, she expressed hope that through the economic conference in Sharm el-Sheik, as well as through the efforts she has invested since she took duty as ambassador, much more is to be materialized.

The Egyptian ambassador recalled that, a few days ago, she spoke with the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, about preparations for this economic summit, at which, as she said, the presence of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic is expected.

One of the topics discussed with Vucic were the efforts for combating threats by ISIS in Libya, and as the ambassador said, the Serbian prime minister condemned the attacks on Egyptian citizens in Libya and is active at many levels in providing support of Serbia for the fight against "Daesh" (Arabic for ISIS) and terrorist groups in Libya.

The ambassador of Egypt warned that terrorism threatens world peace and security, and urged all countries, in accordance with the UN Charter, especially those taking part in the International Coalition against ISIS, to support the efforts of Egypt in the fight against terrorist groups in Libya.
