Public prosecutor confers with British, US justice ministers

BELGRADE- Serbian Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac paid an official visit to Great Britain at the invitation by the British minister of justice and she also had a series of meetings with British and U.S. prosecutors and foreign diplomats.

In the course of the visit, the Serbian public prosecutor attended the Global Law Summit in London together with heads of judiciary institutions from over 80 countries, the Serbian Public Prosecutor's Office released on Friday.

Dolovac had meeting with British Minister of State for Justice and Civil Liberties Simon Hughes, Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders, Acting Director of the Directorate for the Western Balkans and Enlargement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain Paul Gaskell and head of the department for EU accession affairs Paul Lakin.

Dolovac also conferred with U.S. Justice Minister Eric Holder, Deputy Assistant Attorney of the U.S. Department of Justice General Bruce Swartz, Attorney General for England and Wales Jeremy Wright and Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Christopher Grayling.

The meetings covered increase of efficiency through the implementation of the new Serbian Criminal Procedure Code, importance of independence of the public prosecutor's office and improvement of mutual cooperation, states the release.

The British officials also expressed willingness to back Serbia's Public Prosecutor's Office and contribute to strengthening of stability, rule of law and Serbia's EU accession through fight against crime.

Full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain to Serbia's European future and prompt progress in the EU accession process was also voiced, states the release.
