Secretary of State George Ciamba pays visit to Athens

Secretary of State for European Affairs George Ciamba paid a visit to Athens on Friday, the first visit to the Hellenic capital of a dignitary from a European Union member state outside the eurozone.

According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) press release, during the visit the Secretary of State had a series of meetings with Nikos Chountis, Minister Delegate for European Affairs with the Hellenic Foreign Ministry, Yanis Varoufakis, Finance Minister, as well as with Gavriil Sakellaridis, Government Spokesman, and Evangelos Kalapadakis, Prime Minister's diplomatic adviser. The opinion exchange with the Hellenic officials aimed at topical aspects concerning the bilateral cooperation, the current developments in report with the European and regional agenda.

"On a bilateral level, the discussions highlighted the good collaboration between Romania and the Hellenic Republic, based on the traditional relations between the two countries, at the same time underlining the openness of the two sides to the further strengthening of the political-diplomatic dialogue, included by conducting high-level visits in the coming period. Moreover, they agreed to intensify the cooperation in the economic, commercial and other sectoral areas. Both sides hailed the ascending trend of the bilateral commercial exchanges in 2014, Greece being ranked sixth among the countries investing in Romania," the release shows.
