Police bust criminal ring, seize illicit drugs, cash

Potent and highly potent illicit drugs and psychotropic substances as well as nearly RON165,000 and more than 9,000 de euro, along with objects banned from possession were seized by the Police in a sting operation conducted February 13-26, Romania's General Police Inspectorate (IGPR) reported on Sunday in a press release.

The operation was conducted under the coordination of the Directorate to Combat Organised Crime operating with the IGPR and related to some cases being built by the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

'Organised crime officers carried out 59 operational actions to dismantle crime rings specialising in human trafficking and illicit drug taking,' IGPR reports.

In order to prove the criminal offences of 256 suspects, 160 searches were conducted of buildings used by them as well as of cars used in the commission of crime. As many as 68 people were remanded or arrested based on evidence gathered.

'Three hard discs, 13 laptops, 67 mobile telephones, a firearm, two droplets of heroin, 107 g of cocaine, 5,825 g of cannabis and 67 cannabis plants, 1.8 kg of psychotropic substances, 79 sachets of various narcotics, eight pills, two scales, four sham devices, 27,825 packages of cigarettes, RON 163,825 de lei and 9,020 euros,' reads the release.
