"Cold weather over, but there may still be some snow"

BELGRADE -- The winter and spells of "significantly cold weather" are behinds us, but some snowfall can still be expected, a meteorologist has said.

Nedeljko Todorovic, from the national hydro-meteorological authority (RHMZ), has told the public broadcaster RTS that "a repeat of March 2012" - when the country was hit with very low temperatures - should not be expected this year.

Next week will be sunny, according to Todorovic, but this will be followed by a chill, and some snow is expected between March 20 and 25.

20 to 40 centimeters of snow could form on mountains, but will not stick in lower areas, he explained.

The weather in March will be "expectedly varied," Todorovic noted, stressing at the same time that meteorologists are unable to produce accurate long-term forecasts - making it impossible to say what the spring will be like, and "whether we can expect high precipitation."
