ForMin Aurescu hails start of gas export from Romania to Republic of Moldova

The Foreign Affairs minister Bogdan Aurescu hailed on Wednesday the beginning of gas deliveries to the Republic of Moldova, saying it is a symbolic momentum, as for the first time gas is running from West to East.

"I salute the good news. Finally, Romania is exporting gas to the Republic of Moldova, as of today, although it could have done it earlier. We are glad the technical shortages were overcome, even if the amounts are yet small, it is important that this project is starting to function effectively. Once the second phase is finalised, we are working on it, things will be much more substantial. We are talking of a solid commitment of the Romanian Government, of Prime Minister Victor Ponta to deliver gas to the Republic of Moldova from alternative sources and this is a symbolic momentum ? it is for the first time that gas runs reversely, from West to East," Aurescu told a joint press conference with his Moldovan counterpart, Natalia Gherman.

According to the contract signed in December 2014, the Republic of Moldova will receive in 2015 over one million cubic metres of gas for 1,010 lei/1,000 cubic metres. AGERPRES
