14th International Theatre Festival Slavija begins Monday

BELGRADE - The International Theatre Festival Slavija 2015 will be opened by Serbia's celebrated actor Petar Bozovic at the Slavija Theatre in Belgrade Monday evening, and eight plays will be staged before its closing on March 16.

The festival's program will be opened by Belgrade Drama Theater's actors playing Yasmina Reza's Art, instead of by Zaar, a performance by theater artists from Tehran, directed by Mohammad Khatami, as the troop could not arrive in time due to carrier-related problems. The Iranian play will be staged on another night.

The 14th edition of the cultural event will feature the participation of artists from Russia, Egypt, Israel, Montenegro, and Serbia.

Only one prize - Don Quixote - for the best play, will be awarded. The Don Quixote statuette is the work of sculptor Nikola (Kolja) Milunovic.

The jury will be chaired by theatrologist Rasko Jovanovic, and will comprise stage director Zivorad Ajdacic and Sergei Kovalyov, playwright and theater critic from Belarus who did his PhD thesis on the Slavic theater.
