ForMin Aurescu: Riga Summit, a good opportunity for Gov't in Chisinau to present a progress report

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, on Monday stated that the upcoming Riga Summit would also be a very good occasion for the Government in Chisinau to come up with a progress report, since the Summit is scheduled to take place in late May, when the new Executive in the Republic of Moldova will mark almost 100 days since validation.

"This Summit [in Riga ? e.n.], given that it is held in late May, in an interesting way coincides with the passing of 100 days since the new government was installed in Chisinau. Which is why I believe that this is a also good opportunity for a progress report be presented, to include elements related to the current stage of implementation of the Association and Free Trade Agreements," Aurescu told a press conference he held jointly in Bucharest with his German counterpart, Frank Walter Steinmeier.

The Romanian high-ranking dignitary also appreciated that, following the agreements that existed between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, both at presidency level and at the level of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, there is hope that the Government in Chisinau will keep going on its chosen European path. In this context, Aurescu underscored how important it is for the decision making factors on the other side of the Pruth River to fully implement the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement.

In his turn, Steinmeier showed that it was Chisinau's responsibility to decide what path it wishes to follow, while he appreciated the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union to be "an important foundation" in that sense.
