Sellers return to contain Greek bourse rise
The marked rise in turnover at Tuesday?s ATHEX session came about mostly during the containment of the early gains posted in the wake of Monday?s Eurogroup, as the benchmark?s 4 percent morning gains proved no more than a flash in the pan. Trading volume started picking up during the day as the sellers resurfaced to create a mix of green and red on the stock chart.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 817.39 points, adding 0.33 percent to Monday?s 814.70 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 0.26 percent to end at 241.18 points.
Eurobank (up 4.55 percent) kept the banks index afloat (up 0.10 percent) while Piraeus Bank lost 3.99 percent and Alpha gave up 1.54 percent. Marfin Investment Group outperformed with 9.55 percent growth and EYDAP added 3.39 percent, but Jumbo fell 2.60 percent and Folli Follie declined 1.82 percent.
In total 68 stocks posted gains, 54 took losses and 22 were non-movers.
Turnover amounted to 92.5 million euros, up from Monday?s 69.6 million.
