Energy Minister, Moldovan Economy Deputy Minister discuss interconnecting natural gas, electricity networks

Energy Minister Andrei Gerea and Republic of Moldova Economy Deputy Minister Valeriu Triboi, coordinator of the energy sector, on Tuesday talked about completing the necessary projects for the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, shows a Energy, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and Business Environment Ministry release.

"Romania endorses the European path of the Republic of Moldova and supports this state's energy security strengthening. The completion of the projects for the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks, also backed by the European Commission, represents an important step in the direction of integrating the neighbour country in the energy market of the European Union," Andrei Gerea said.

The two officials agreed measures meant to intensify the communication between the specialists of the two states, to identify and overcome the possible barriers in conducting the projects, as well as to complete the text of a Memorandum of Understanding, with the role of stimulating the bilateral collaboration for the promotion and completion of the energy projects of interconnection.

"According to the official statistical data, in 2014, Romania became the main supplying market with products for the economy and population of the Republic of Moldova, but also the first destination country of the goods we produce. The example could also be followed by the cooperation in the energy area," the official of Chisinau said.
