IRES survey finds DNA, DIICOT trusted by majority of Romanians

A survey conducted by polling agency IRES (the Romanian Institute for Assessment and Strategy) between March 9 - 10 found that 63 percent of the Romanians have high and very high confidence in the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), while the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) enjoys the trust of 55 percent of the citizens.

A 23 percent segment of the respondents said they have very high trust for the DNA, while 40 percent said they have very much confidence in the institution. 21 percent of the polled reported placing little trust in the DNA, and 12 percent have very little trust. As far as the DIICOT is concerned, 16 percent of the respondents said they have very high trust in the institution, 39 percent reported high trust, while 37 percent said they have little or very little trust.

The confidence percentage goes down when it comes to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ), yet the amount of those who trust the institution is larger than of those who doubt it. Thus, 48 percent of the respondents voiced high or very high trust in the ICCJ, while 44 percent expressed little and very little trust.

At the opposite end are the judges, who enjoy high trust on the part of just 37 percent of the Romanians, while 58 percent have a different opinion, with little and very little trust placed in the institution. Tribunals stand high in the confidence of 37 percent of the public, while those with little and very little confidence in these institutions stand at 57 percent.
