PM: Bulgarian minority as bridge between two countries

BELGRADE -- Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday that the Bulgarian national minority in Serbia represents the bridge between the two countries.

He made the statement during the talks with Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, who earlier in the day also met with his Serbian counterpart Tomislav Nikolic.

Vucic and Plevneliev discussed Serbia's European integration and the guest from Sofia "underscored that Bulgaria supports Serbia's EU path and is willing to share its experiences from the EU accession talks with Serbia."

The Serbian prime minister and the Bulgarian president agreed that economic cooperation and exchange between the two countries needs to improve.

The talks also covered cooperation in the energy sector, "especially in connection to the issue of the gas inter-connector."

Vucic said that the Serbian market was "open for new investments from Bulgaria," the government said in a statement.

Plevneliev was also received by Serbian Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic who underlined "the need for intensifying and deepening the regional cooperation as that is a prerequisite for advancement of all states in the Western Balkans region."

Gojkovic and Plevneliev agreed that Serbia and Bulgaria are willing to step up the parliamentary cooperation, and relations in various fields such as the economy, construction, infrastructure sector.

Gojkovic pointed to the need for strengthening the cooperation between working bodies and parliamentary groups of friendship of the two countries, and especially advocated for the cooperation in the field of EU integration in the form of an exchange of experiences.
