3rd Belgrade Irish Festival kicks off

BELGRADE - The 3rd Belgrade Irish Festival, which will until March 22 feature works by Irish film, theatre, music and literary authors, has opened in the new building of the Yugoslav Film Archive.

The audience was welcomed late Friday by festival director Jas Kaminski and Serbian producer Miroslav Mogorovic, the originators of the event, after which the film Frank, a musical comedy directed by Lenny Abrahamson, was screened.

The festival will feature seven Irish films, including Fast Food, starring Rade Serbedzija.

The star of this year's festival is singer/composer Lisa Hannigan, who will perform at Dom omladine on March 21, with the Belgrade band Stray Dogg scheduled to play as well.

Dancing at Lughnasa, a play written by the Irish author Brian Friel and directed by Aleksandar Dundjerovic, will be performed at the Belgrade Drama Theatre.

A Serbian-Irish cast of actors will perform The Dreaming of the Bones: A Balkan Session, a play based on the poems of William Butler Yeats, at the cultural institution Parobrod.
