Exhibition of Church of Our Lady of Ljevis frescoes

BELGRADE - The exhibition by the Gallery of Frescoes of the National Museum in Belgrade entitled "Serbia - the Land of Frescoes" has opened in Svetosavski dom (St. Sava Hall).

The visitors will have a chance to get to know or remind themselves of a cultural monument of exceptional importance - the Church of Our Lady of Ljevis located in Prizren, Kosovo-Metohija.

The small format copies of frescoes of the Church of Our Lady of Ljevis were made by Zdenka and Branislav Zivkovic.

The interior walls of the church were painted between 1310 and 1313 by Greek masters commissioned by King Milutin himself.

The exhibition was opened on Tuesday evening marking the 11th anniversary of the March pogrom against Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija during which 35 holy sites were set on fire, including 18 monuments of culture, one of which was the Church of Our Lady of Ljevis.

The exhibition is realized under the auspices of the Serbian Patriarch Irinej and with the help of the Serbian government's office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities. It will be open by March 31.
