Serbian police wins praise over reaction to migrations

BELGRADE - Director General of the European Commission Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson commended the Serbian police on prompt and efficient reaction to the wave of illegal migrants from Kosovo departing for EU countries.

In the talks with Serbian Minister of Interior Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic, Danielsson underscored the good cooperation between the Serbian police and police services in EU countries in tackling this problem.

He called on Serbia to take part in the drafting of a new EU migration agenda and pointed to the importance of the recent meeting of Serbian and Kosovo police directors.

Stefanovic presented Danielsson with the plan of reforms in the Interior Ministry and informed him about the main novelties in the Law on the Police.

He pointed to the importance of further development of the police and strengthening of internal control.

Stefanovic and Danielsson discussed Serbia's progress in the fight against terrorism and foreign fighters in keeping with European standards.
