Indictees for crime in Strpci released from detention

BELGRADE - The Trial Chamber of the Belgrade Appellate Court decided to annul the detention sentence for the indictees charged with the crime in Strpci and release them from prison pending trial, Tanjug learnt from lawyer Nebojsa Perovic.

The Trial Chamber granted the appeals filed by the defendants and the detention sentence has been revoked for Gojko Lukic, Ljubisa and Dusko Vasiljevic, Jovan Lipovac and Dragana Djekic.

The War Crimes Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment against five former members of Republika Srpska (RS) armed forces for torture and murder of 20 passengers from the train in Strpci in 1993.

The indictment against members of RS armed forces was raised on founded suspicion that they acted in co-perpetration to commit a war crime against civilians in Strpci, Prelovo and Musici in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) on February 27, 1993.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office is conducting investigation against ten more individuals as suspects in the crime.

The indictees were captured on December 5, 2014 in a joint action conducted by members of the police forces, Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor's Office and BiH Prosecutor's Office.
