Priest close to bullying victim talks about his character

Father Dimitrios, an orthodox priest who was close to Vangelis Giakoumakis, the 20-year-old student from Crete who was pushed by bullies to take his own life about a month ago, describes the unfortunate young man as an exceptional and mature person.

"Vangelis won me over with his rare character. He was a man of few words, a very serious and mature boy," says the priest, who was also Vangelis' confessor.

Father Dimitrios was shocked and saddened by the news of the death of the young man, who was missing for about a month before his body was found close to his "place of torture," the dairy school he was attending, in Ioannina.

"I had no idea about the bullying, he never told me anything about it. And to tell you the truth, I wouldn't expect that he'd talk to anyone," the priest says, noting that Vangelis was a kid that hated fussing over himself, and didn't want to burden anybody with his problems.
