Rakic seeks stopping privatization of LUX firm's assets

BELGRADE - Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakic requested the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA) Thursday to immediately stop the announced privatization of some thirty facilities owned by the company LUX on the Serb-majority north of Kosovo-Metohija (KiM).

The KTA informed Rakic during the week that the sale of the facilities of the so-called Series 27 and 28 in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica had been postponed indefinitely, to until the agency sets up its board.

Rakic asked the KPA to keep the decision in force even after the KTA board was set up, adding that he had previously warned that the privatization was a plunderage and sale of LUX company facilities, which were owned by former local governments of the Republic of Serbia, and the attempts were nothing else but a brutal violation of property rights and ignoring the situation on the ground.

He pointed out that the coalition agreement to set up the Kosovo government, which the Albanian parties reached with the Srpska list in December 2014, envisaged stopping the unilateral privatization process in KiM.

By suspending the privatization, the KTA would show that it respects that agreement and the Brussels agreement on normalization of relations between the Serb and Albanian communities in KiM, Rakic said. That way, it would help further the normalization efforts.
