Interview with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest, Oleg Malginov

AGERPRES: Mr Ambassador, how would you rate the relationship between Romania and the Russian Federation right now?

OLEG MALGINOV: Well, as you can imagine today the intensity of relations between our two countries is not as high as it was before. Actually, we don't have active contacts on the political level. We have an exchange of certain letters, congratulations, etc., but on the political level we don't have contacts. That is regrettable, because approximately one and a half years ago we had quite good plans for the expansion of our relations in many fields, in political, in economic, in cultural and in educational spheres, etc. We had draft agreements in certain fields, which could be mutually beneficial for Romania and the Russian Federation, so they are not cancelled, I hope. They are on hold now. They are postponed a little bit and I am working here in order to see in the future the possibility to implement the ideas we had worked on before. But we have quite active working relations. I have contacts with the authorities of Romania of all the spheres, with the Foreign Ministry, with the Administration, with the Executive, with representatives of the civil society and others. I know that Romanian Embassy in Moscow is also actively working with our authorities, so we have a good and stable exchange of information, messages, signals, because it is very important to know in detail the position of each country. Now the diplomats are working.

We have contacts among economic operators. Our relations in economy are still quite active. Hopefully, we shall not face extremely bad results in the year 2015,...
