Awards on occasion of Month of la Francophonie

BELGRADE - French Ambassador to Serbia Christine Moro organized late Tuesday a reception on the occasion of the Month of la Francophonie, where the most successful participants in competitions within the Day of Francophonie were given awards.

In 2006, Serbia became an observer member of the International Organization of la Francophonie. In 2014, the country launched its EU accession talks. This is very good news for the Francophonie, Moro said in her opening speech.

She pointed out that French language is in constant development in Serbia, adding that the Francophonie is an active network facing the future and that promotion of French language is its priority.

The International Organization of La Francophonie brings together 80 members and observer countries. A total of 130,000 students learn French in Serbia, while at faculties there are four French departments. There are also eight classes in grammar schools where courses are held in Serbian and French as well.

The Month of la Francophonie was organized by the French embassy and the French Institute in Belgrade, with the support or embassies of Belgium, Switzerland, Bulgaria and organizations Wallonie-Bruxelles International, TV5 Monde and L'Oreal Balkan.
