Serbia-Slovakia economic cooperation should be increased

BRATISLAVA - Slovakian Finance Minister Peter Kazimir said he expects that as Serbia's accession process vis-?-vis the European Union progresses the Serbian business presence will be more felt in Slovakia.

"We need more economic cooperation that has an actual effect on the living standards of our people," said Kazimir at a Serbian-Slovak Business Forum in Bratislava on Thursday, TASR news agency reported.

Pointing to the historical link between Slovakia and Serbia, the proximity of the two languages, as well as the presence of the Slovak minority in Serbia, particularly in the autonomous region of Vojvodina, Kazimir added this constitutes "a natural bridge between our countries."

"The national reform process in the Republic of Serbia and Serbia's integration into the European Union by European standards strengthens our mutual proximity," he said.

The forum opened by Serbian PM Aleksandar Vucic and Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak brought together around 60 companies from Slovakia and 21 from Serbia.
