Belgrade Marathon awarded EA quality and safety certificate

BELGRADE - This year's 28th Belgrade Marathon has become the first European event of its kind to be awarded the quality and safety certificate of European Athletics (EA), said a statement released from the organisation's headquarters in Geneva on Monday,

Several years ago, the EA launched an initiative to certify and standardise road races in Europe, following the example set by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Unlike the IAAF, where the badges (gold, silver and bronze) also depend on the quality of the elite runners' results, EA has set standards that are primarily based on safety and the quality of the participants' experience, the Belgrade Marathon said in a statement.

We are extremely proud that the Belgrade Marathon, which has a large number of participants, has become the first race in Europe certified according to EA standards, said Belgrade Marathon Director Dejan Nikolic.

The Belgrade Marathon will be held on April 18.
