Serb cleared of murdering 11 Croats in Tenja

BELGRADE - The Department for War Crimes of the High Court in Belgrade acquitted Monday former member of the Tenja Territorial Defense Force Zarko Cubrilo of the murder of 11 Croat civilians in Tenja, eastern Croatia, in the summer of 1991.

The prosecution has the right to appeal this decision to the Appellate Court in Belgrade.

Cubrilo was charged with the illegal detention and murder of 11 civilians near the local cattle cemetery outside village Bobota, Croatia.

The bodies of the victims have never been found, as they have been moved from the crime scene, the prosecution said following the indictment.

The Tenja case was transferred to the prosecution on the basis of the agreement on cooperation in the criminal prosecution of perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide between the prosecution offices of Serbia and Croatia.
