Cepurin: Parade not matter of political circumustance

BELGRADE - Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Cepurin stated that the announced participation of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the forthcoming parade in Moscow is not a matter of variable political circumstances or interests.

I think that for us, Serbs and Russians, this is not a matter of numbers and variable political circumstances. The presence of the Serbian side has great symbolic significance. This emphasizes historical unity of our peoples and traditional ties between Serbs and Russians, Cepurin told Belgrade-based daily Politika.

He also said that officials of all countries that made contribution to the fight against fascism are invited to the celebration of victory in the Great Patriotic War, including Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and a unit of the armed forces of Serbia.

From the first to the last day of the war, Yugoslavia and Serbia had a very big role, and this is highly appreciated and respected in Russia, the country's ambassador said.

As he put it, a total of 16 units of friendly countries and the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition are invited to take part in the military parade in Moscow's Red Square.
