Serbian delegation participates in I.A.O. session

BELGRADE - The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) attended the joint session of the committee for education and culture in Tbilisi, the Serbian parliament released on Wednesday.

At the session held on Monday, Aleksandar Cotric and Mileta Poskurica of the Serbian delegation spoke about the importance of affirmation of values of Orthodox educational and cultural identity.

Members of the I.A.O. leadership, including Cotric, conferred with Vice Speaker of the Georgian parliament Manana Kobakhidze who underscored that her country supports the work of I.A.O.

She underscored that I.A.O. encourages tolerance, humanism and general values of civilisation, and pointed to the deleterious effects of ideological, political and religious extremism.

Session participants also met with Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II who voiced the support of the Georgian Orthodox Church to the preservation of Serbia's territorial integrity. He expressed the hope that a peaceful solution would be found to all international, inter-religious and territorial disputes in the region of Caucasus and the rest of the world.
