Political leaders travel far and wide for Easter

Greece’s political leaders are attending Greek Orthodox Easter events at their home towns with friends and family members.

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos is attending the Divine Liturgy celebration at his native Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese. He will be attending the church service at the Cathedral of the Presentation of the Savior, however, he will be back in Athens on Easter Sunday.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is expected to travel to the nearby isle of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf on Easter Sunday, but will be attending a church service in Athens at midnight on Saturday.

Main opposition conservative New Democracy leader Antonis Samaras is attending midnight mass in Nafplio, his wife Georgia’s hometown.

Opposition centrist Potami Leader Stavros Theodorakis will be in Athens.

Communist Party (KKE) General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas is visiting Lamia and Livadia.

Defense Minister and head of the right-wing Independent Greeks ANEL party, Panos Kammenos, will spend Easter in Athens. He was at the Athens International Airport to receive the Holy light from Jerusalem . Tomorrow he will be at the Army Park in Goudi attending a luncheon for unemployed people.

Socialist  PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos will spend Easter in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.
