Turkish Stream "could be extended to Austria"

MOSCOW -- Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak said on Tuesday that the planned Turkish stream pipeline "could be extended all the way to Austria."

This would happen via Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, and Hungary, he explained.

Russia plans to deliver its natural gas to Turkey and Southern Europe using the pipeline, and it could be extended to Austria, Novak was quoted as saying by the Russian website Sputnik.

"I know that many countries are interested in the project. For example, a route to deliver gas to Austria's Baumgartner via Greece, Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary is possible," he said, adding that Russia was engaged in "intensive negotiations with the countries that could become transit nations."

Serbian Ambassador to Russia Slavenko Terzic previously confirmed Serbia's interest in joining the project.

Terzic also announced that Novak would be in Belgrade in late April or early May, and that he hoped the Russian minister and Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic would discuss this subject.
