Two Serbs released from custody

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - The two Serbs who were taken into custody after the disappearance of an Albanian teenager in northern Kosovska Mitrovica were released on Tuesday, lawyer Kaplan Baruti said.

The court denied the prosecutor's motion to order that they be kept in custody, Baruti told Tanjug.

The two Serbs were remanded in custody for up to 48 hours based on a decision by the prosecutor in the case.

They were arrested on Saturday, after the Kosovo police received a report on the disappearance of an Albanian teenager on the day before.

It is likely that a group of ethnic Albanians, including the missing 17-year-old, attempted a robbery in the northern part of Mitrovica and that the young man disappeared while trying to run away.

Deputy regional commander of the Kosovo police Besim Hoti told Tanjug that the search for the missing Albanian continues and that police divers are scouring the Ibar River.

The case is now under the jurisdiction of the EULEX prosecution, Hoti said.
