Iohannis after visiting refurbished National Theater of Bucharest: It's a jewel of Romania

The National Theater of Bucharest (TNB) is a jewel of Romania, President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday, after visiting the refurbished premises of the institution, adding that once reopened, it will become a palace of culture in the true sense of the word.

"It's a particularly beautiful achievement. I am impressed, and I think I can allow myself to make this assessment because in recent years I have become close to the Romanian theater. I've been in the old theater building and I've now seen the overhauled theater, and it's a jewel not only for Bucharest, but for Romania too. The reusing and re-equipping of sizeable space allowed halls to be created that didn't exist before, halls with a highly modernist aspect many directors will be seeking. I am convinced that once it reopens in this rearranged form, the National Theater will become, and I hope nobody gets offended, a palace of culture, not simply a theater, but a palace of culture in the true sense of the word," Iohannis said.

The President congratulated the representatives of TNB, the team that worked on the refurbishment of the building and the theater that bravely coped with being a construction site for several years.
