Serbian Defense Minister confers with Belarusian counterpart

BELGRADE, MOSCOW - Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and his Belarusian counterpart Major General Andrei Ravkov discussed the promotion of defense cooperation on Thursday at the 4th international security conference in Moscow.

The two officials agreed that the bilateral military cooperation is on an upward trend since the governments of Serbia and Belarus signed a cooperation agreement in November 2014, the Serbian minister's office said in a release.

Gasic noted that there is room for closer cooperation in the area of defense, particularly in terms of scientific and technical cooperation, aircraft overhaul and procurement of spare parts, and modernization of armament and military equipment. "We also recognize military education and military medical cooperation as the areas of mutual interest," the minister added.

Serbia greatly appreciates the support of Belarus to its territorial integrity and sovereignty, said Gasic, and invited Minister Ravkov to visit Serbia by the end of the year, the release states.
