Fencing: French team wins women's foil European Cup in Bucharest

French team Bourg la Reine defeated Romanian CSA Steaua to win the women's foil European Cup in Bucharest on Sunday evening, the Romanian Fencing Federation informed.

The contending clubs in the Mihai Viteazu Sports Hall of Bucharest were CDS Mangiarotti (Italy), Bourg la Reine (France), Hapoel Akko Romach Abirim (Israel), Chisinau Fencing School (Republic of Moldova), and Romanian CSA Steaua Bucharest and CSU Poli Timisoara. It was the second year in a row that the Army Sports Club Steaua hosted this competition, in collaboration with the Romanian Fencing Federation and with the support of the Ministry of Defence.

Bourg la Reine won the final against Steaua by 35-32; CSU Poli Timisoara took the bronze after 45-41 against CDS Mangiarotti.

The French lined up Ysaora Thibus, Ines Boubakri, Gaelle Gebet and Sarah Bertille, coached by Geoffroy Labourier; team captain was Julien Blanchet.

Steaua had Malina Calugareanu, Maria Boldor, Corina Damaschin and Anca Saveanu, with Petre Ducu and Florin Gheorghe as coaches.

On the same day, CSA Steaua Bucharest rewarded 15 years old fencer Alexandra Predescu, and coach Alina Ciuculescu for the gold medal of the epee Cadet World Championship in Taskent, earlier in April. Ciuculescu found the teenager athlete at ACS Stesial and brought her to Steaua in 2014.AGERPRES
