Six workers injured at Tigar Tyres plant

PIROT - Six electricians were injured around 12.30 pm Thursday at the Tigar Tyres plant in Pirot, southern Serbia.

Pirot General Hospital Director Goran Petrovic told Tanjug that three workers who sustained more severe injuries have been transferred to the Nis hospital, while two others remain in semi-intensive care and one is in intensive care at the General Hospital.

"The patients are stabilised, conscious and stable and, without a doubt, the injuries were caused by an electric shock," Petrovic explained.

The accident took place in the so-called prep room of the rolling plant, and the cause is an electric shock.

The company's corporate communications manager Emilija Lilic said that the accident was preceded by a power failure and sparking at the plant.

The electricians came in to fix the malfunction and suffered an electric shock, she said.

Other details will be known following an investigation, Lilic said.
