Former UDMR deputy Marko Attila under preventive custody in absence (official)

The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) on Wednesday decided to put former UDMR (Hungarian Democrat Union of Romania) deputy Marko Attila under 30-day preventive custody in absence, as he is being accused in the ANRP (National Authority for Property Restitution) criminal file, a ICCJ minute reads.The Supreme Court admitted the DNA anti-corruption prosecutor's proposal for preventive arrest in absence of Marko Attila, a Secretary of state with the General Secretariat of the Government - the Department for inter-ethnic relations, at the material time.

He is accused of office abuse, with very serious consequences, if the public servant has obtained undue benefits for himself or another (3 crimes).

On April 9, Marko Attila was prosecuted alongside another 7 culprits, among whom the former head of the National Integrity Agency (ANI) Horia Georgescu who, at the material time were part of the Central Committee for the Compensations Determination with the National Authority for Property Restitution (ANRP), as well as 4 culprits who were authorized auditors.

According to the prosecutors, through their deliberate actions or lack of actions, the 12 defendants have produced over 84.5 million euro in damage to the state budget.

The decision is not final, it could be fought against. AGERPRES
