World Press Photo 2015 is officially open in University Square

The World Press Photo 2015 exhibition has officially opened on Thursday, in the Bucharest University Square, where the people interested could admire the most valuable photographs of the competition.

"The exhibition includes 160 photos taken by over 40 photographers," said Simona Giura, a representative of the Eidos Foundation, the organizer of World Press Photo 2015 in Romania.

"There are hundreds of thousands of photos taken by 90,000 photographers every year. The exhibition covers about 132 world locations. We are among the first five cities this show is traveling to. Winners were announced in March. The exhibition is open until May 29. From May 16 through 24 we'll have 10 days of film screenings," Simona Giura specified.

World Press Photo, the most powerful photojournalism world show, visited by over 3.5 million people every year has touched down in Bucharest through the Eidos Foundation.

According to the foundation, 5,692 reporters and photographers with 131 countries have participated in the 2014 edition of the World Press Photo competition, the show bringing to the Romanian public the selection of the most valuable photo documentation from the 97,912 images on the contest's book.

Among these is the great winner of the "2014 Photo" contest, signed by Denmark's Mads Nissen, to be exhibited in Bucharest alongside the other photos selected by the competition's independent jury.

This year's edition brings a new category, Long Term Projects, which proved very popular since the entry phase, gathering 14,583 images.
