Syrian army retreats from last Idlib city

The Syrian army has retreated from the northwestern town of Ariha, after a coalition of anti-government forces took over this last Idlib fortress.

 

The anti-government forces are mostly comprised of the al-Nusra front, an Al Qaeda offshoot.

 

The coalition stated that they have conquered many checkpoints defending the city, while the Syrian army admitted that it has retreated. Ariha, a city of 80,000 people, is in a strategic position as the crossroads between two major areas of Syria.
