Black Sea University Foundation's Dungaciu: Romania's strategic consistency qualifies it as US partner

Romania has a strategic consistency that qualifies it as a strategic partner of the United States of America, irrespective of the successive government parties, says the president of the Black Sea University Foundation (FUMN), Dan Dungaciu.

"In Romania, the strategic direction does not change with the ruling parties. No character, no man ? no matter how important they would be in Romania ? could alter a strategic direction," Dungaciu said in a public debate on Tuesday, on the 135 years anniversary of Romania-USA diplomatic relations.

He mentioned that currently the Euro-Atlantic world, of which Romania is indisputably a part, is in confrontation with Russia, with the Euro-Asian world.

"We look at corruption from America. If we look at it from Moscow, we'll see that here is a true strategy. (...) Russia capitalizes the shortages it finds into the system, it doesn't invent them," Dungaciu asserted.

In his turn, the former minister and former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) Teodor Melescanu, member of the FUMN Board of Directors, said the relations between Romanian and the US are not only a bilateral and not owed to some commune, commercial or other interests, but are based on a fundamental element: "The United States have been, regardless of the fact that they have officially expressed that, one of the guarantors of Romania's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity."
