German Bundestag discusses Greek bailout plan (Watch Live)

All eyes are on Wednesday’s debate in the German parliament on the 3rd Greek bailout plan worth 86bln Euros via the ESM. The discussion commenced at 10 in the morning and is expected to pass, but the interest will be focused on how many dissenters in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party will vote against the party line. The preliminary vote on Tuesday among members of the ruling CDU and CSU parties revealed 56 ‘leaks’ from Merkel’s Christian Democrats who voted against the rescue plan.  The CDU/CSU parties hold 311 seta of the total 631 seats in the Bundestag. Addressing the chamber, German Finance Minister called on the Bundestag MPs to vote in favour of the rescue plan. The German politician during his speech said the participation of the IMF is a necessary condition for the new plan to work, adding that he is confident given the reassurances by IMF chief, Christine Lagarde that it would consider taking part in the new plan after a revision in October. Gregor Gysi, leader of Die Linke (The left) party, a brother party of SYRIZA said the Greek banks should have been left to go bankrupt.
