Bulgaria's Tsetska Tsacheva To Participate in 4th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament
Bulgarian Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva is leaving for the US on Saturday to take part in the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
The forum, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will take place on August 31 - September 2, 2015 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, according to a media statement of Bulgaria's Parliament.
Tsacheva will also participate in the Tenth Meeting of Women Speakers of Parliament, scheduled to take place on August 29-30, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Tsacheva will make a statement on the topic of innovative democratic solutions for guaranteeing equal treatment in decision-making processes and bodies.
During her stay in New York, Tsacheva will meet with Jonathan Greenblatt, National Director of the Anti-Defamation League.
Tsacheva's agenda also includes a meeting with the Bulgarian community in New York.
The Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament will be officially inaugurated on Monday in the presence of Saber Chowdhury, IPU President, Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General, and Sam K. Kutesa, President of UN General Assembly.
Forest Whitaker, artist, humanist and UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation, will deliver a keynote address.
In the course of four plenary sittings, followed by general debates, the participants in the conference will discuss topics such as "Parliamentary involvement in the shaping and implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals", "Parliamentary oversight: Challenges and opportunities", "Translating the SDGs into action", and "Implementation of major recommendations of previous Speakers' Conferences and the growing parliamentary dimension to international cooperation."
