Athens receives thousands of refugees every day

In just a few days the caretaker Prime Minister Vasiliki Thanos managed to take all decisions and measures that SYRIZA government should have taken to address the immigration problem three months ago.

The inauguration of the accommodation center for refugees and immigrants at Eleonas in Athens proved to be a pre-election show of SYRIZA’s government and former Minister for Migration Policy Tasia Christodoulopoulou.

The evacuation of migrants and refugees from the island of Lesvos continued on Thursday, with another 4,487 arriving in Piraeus on board two passenger ferries from the island.

Most of them were Syrian and Afghans refugees. Syrian refugees headed to Omonia square to get their tickets so as to be transferred to North Greece and then to other European countries, whereas Afghans who are not accepted to other EU countries according to Dublin Regulation, camped out at Athens squares, mainly at Victoria square at the center of Athens.
