Turkish surgeon dies in parachute accident in the French Alps

A Turkish cardiac surgeon died on Sept. 13 in a parachute accident during a wingsuit jump from the summit of a mountain in the French Alps, where he traveled on the weekend.

Surgeon Mehmet Susam, 41, hit the rocks after he rotated to the left during his free fall following his jump from the summit of a mountain. Rescue and medical teams were deployed to the region but it was revealed that Susam died on impact.

Meanwhile, French aviation authorities have opened an investigation into the accident. The Attorney Generalship has also seized video footage obtained from Susam's helmet camera.

Susam's funeral is expected to be held in Turkey in the upcoming days after the completion of an autopsy.

Susam had been parachute jumping for 20 years and wingsuit jumping for the last four years.
