Hungary has started building a razor-wire fence along the border with Slovenia to deter a flow of illegal migrants, AP reported on Thursday.

Slovenian state news agency STA said the country wasn't informed in advance of Hungary's plans.

A Hungarian government spokesman told the AP the fence was being erected near a checkpoint between Tornyiszentmiklos, in Hungary and Pince, in Slovenia.

Hungary and Slovenia both are members of the European Union's passport-free travel Schengen zone.

Slovenia is the latest among Hungary's neighbours after non-EU Serbia and EU member Croatia, which is not part of Schengen area, to see a razor-wire fence being built by Hungary .Preparations are also underway to extend the fence along Hungary's border with Romania as well.

The Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Wednesday that the fence along the border with Croatia would be finished during the weekend.
