Lanthimos’ next film, a historical drama, to star Emma Stone, Kate Winslet

Greek director Giorgos Lanthimos appears to have definitely emerged as the country’s “fair haired boy” on the European scene, with the magazine Deadline reporting this week that he’s in contact with Kate Winslet and Emma Stone to star in his next project, called “The Favourite”.

Lanthimos’ flame flickers brightly after the very positive reviews and Cannes publicity he received in his last film, the still-to-be-released “The Lobster”, starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz.

“The Favourite” is billed as a historical drama, with the screenplay written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara. The plot is set in 17th century England.

Olivia Colman will portray Queen Anne, Winslet will be the Duchess of Marlborough, Sarah, and Stone will be Abigail, Sarah’s distant poor relative.
