Tragic mother of slain rapper takes the stand at GD trial

The trial of Golden Dawn MPs continued on Friday with the harrowing testimony of the mother of slain anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas. Magda Fyssa, the mother, took the stand to speak of the last moments of her son who was fatally stabbed by Giorgos Roupakias, a member of the neo-Nazi party.

The mother detailed the events of September 18, 2013, when her son was killed. She refered to Roupakias as a “trained killer”. He arrived at the scene of the crime with three others and joined the dozens of GD members that had cornered her son. “He got out of the car and stabbed him twice in the heart,” she said, in an emotional and tense testimony that follows that of the singer’s father, Panayiotis Fyssas, on Monday.

She refered to the Golden Dawn party as an organization that “trains murderers”. “Their motive was the power that they want to have. Anything that opposes them needs to be done with, whatever moves is slaughtered,” she said.

She stated that the last time she saw her son alive was a day before his muder. She states that he had gone off to watch football, one of the few times that he had gone without his father. At dawn the next day, she saw her husband, pale, trying to describe what happened.

“They told me that the stabbing on my child was professional. They told me that even if it were to take place outside again they would still not be able to save my child. I went to see Pavlos. To those who think they scared him, I want to say that my child was not afraid, he slept, he was an angel. I tried to warm him so that he could get up and we could leave,” she said, breaking down in tears.
