Marathon guide: Sweating for good causes… join in the fun runs around Greece!

October 10

Thessaloniki’s 4th International Night Half-Marathon kicks off at 6.45 p.m. at Thessaloniki on Saturday night. The Half-Marathon covers 21.1 km and already has 4,500 registered runners from five continents and 53 countries taking part.
The half-marathon will be followed by a 5km ‘Health Walk’ at 9.15 p.m. where 16,000 peopel are expected to take part. An additional 2,000 places will be made available for last-minute registrations on Friday at a Pavilion at the Thessaloniki International Fair Exhibition center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
TRITON of Thessaloniki in cooperation with the Municipaity of Thessaloniki, under the aegis of SEGAS and AIMS. It is integrated in the Greek and international calendar of SEGAS, AIMS and EAA. It is also supported by many institutional, supporter and volunteering bodies, as you can see at the official website www.thessalonikihalfmarathon.org

October 11

Join in the 2nd Oloi Mazi Boroume (We All Can) at the Ymittos Mountain at 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 11. The event, apart from being a celebration of human health and vitality, is also a call for solidarity for vulnerable groups.

In registering for the run, participants are called to bring non-perishable food items. The run is organized with the support of the Association for the Protection and Restoration of the Ymittos Mountain.

There are two courses:

A – 8.5 km at 9 a.m.

B – 4.8 km at 9.05 a.m.

Participation is open to all runners aged over 18.

October 17

The Vikos Street Relays for young and old take place at Marina Zea in Piraeus. The picturesque run goes all the way to Pasalimani and helps the work of non-profit organisations. Registrations have already begun and includes relay road races 4x2500m, 2x5000m and Kids Relays (4x50m., 4x100m., 4x200m.) for primary school children.

Registration is available at www.vikos.relays.gr. For those of you who haven’t found a group yet, you can register individually on Saturday afternoon, October 17. The organization will be able to create groups of four and two accordingly.

October 18

It just costs one euro to take part in the 29th Tour of Athens on October 18.  In return, you get to run around the historic Kallimarmaro (Panathinaiko Stadium) where the first Modern Olympic Games were held – and you also get to help children suffering from epilepsy. The money raised during the event will be donated to the Neurology Department of the Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital.

The starting time is 9 a.m. with routes at 10K, 5K and even 1K:

Electronic registrations are open until October 16 at 4 p.m.

Bib numbers collection will be available until October 17 at the City of Athens Youth and Sport Organisation Headquarters and the Athens Cultural Centre (50 Akadimias 50 St, Groundfloor-Kontoglou Hall) from Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 17/10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 210-5284873-4).
