Anti-muslim graffiti at minority mosque in Komotini

Vandals attacked the Yeni mosque in Komotini, Greece’s Western Thrace. Islamophobia Watch reports that Greece has seen a rise in attacks on Muslims and Jews in recent years that coincides with the rise of the ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn party that entered Greek Parliament in 2012 and is currently the third most popular party.

Western Thrace has a large Muslim community, however a fire damaged the entrance and the roof of the Mosque in April. In another attack in October last year a severed pig’s head was placed outside the center of Islamic Studies in Athens and there were anti-muslim slogans on the building.
