Greek National Day parades for Ochi Day with traffic disruptions (vid)

The Greek National Holiday that commemorates Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas rejecting the Italian ultimatum for a right of passage through Greece on October 28, 1940, is typically commemorated with parades throughout Greece. Traffic blocks have been placed in major cities from early on Wednesday morning with a steady ban to traffic from 10 a.m. as well as parking bans from 6 a.m. onwards.

There are traffic disruptions in the city center from 7 a.m. onwards:

Vasilissis Amalias Avenue, total
Panepistimiou Street, as well as adjacent streets
Vasilissis Sofias Street, on both lanes from Panepistimiou Street to Sekeri Street

From 6 a.m. until the end of a service at Dionyssiou Areopagitou Street there will be traffic disruptions at:

Skoura Street, the entire street
Lykavittou Street, in its entirety
Solonos Street, from Kanari to Sina Street
Dimokritiou Street, from Solonos to Skoura Street

At Piraeus there will be disruptions from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. at:

The 34th Pezikou Syntagma, from Omiridiou Skylitsi and El. Venizelou Street
Iroon Polytechniou Street, between El. Venizeou and 2nd Merarchia Street
Vas Georgiou Street, between Ethnikis Antistaseos and Grigoriou Lambraki Street

In Thessaloniki:

There are bans from 3 a.m. until the end of the parade that will begin at 11 a.m. Disruptions at:

Megalou Alexandrou Avenue
G. Papandreou, from M. Alexandrou to M. Kydonion Street
Vas. Georgiou, from 3rd September to N. Germanou Street
M. Botsari – Karaiskaki – Kallidopoulou, 25th March, P. Syndika, Paraskevopoulou Hatzi, 28th Oktovriou sts at the sections from Vas. Olga until M. Alexandrou Avenue
Stratigou Kakavou
Pavlou Mela, from L. Pyrgou Square to Tsimiski Street
Soulioti, from Kallidopoulou until S. Kakavou Street

There will be no cars around these streets from 5 a.m. until the end of the parade.
