Tsipras to stress refugee crisis is European problem in Valletta Summit meeting

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visits Malta to attend the Valletta Summit which will focus on action for migration.

He is expected to reiterate his position that the refugee crisis must be dealt with as a joint European problem and not as one that concerns only the country of entry.

According to government sources, Greek PM aims to make clear that the issue of refugee and migrant flows concerns all countries of EU and not just first reception countries  and that a comprehensive policy must be found to tackle the issue.

He will also talk about the causes that urge refugees and immigrants to leave their countries, including poverty and regional crises.

Mr. Tsipras will be accompanied by Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas and Alternate Minister for European Affairs Nikos Xydakis. On the sidelines of the summit, the prime minister will meet with the President of Switzerland, Simonetta Sommaruga, with whom he will discuss economic and tax issues.
